Chapter 11 Concept
Something that I would really like to incorporate into my next speech is a small video clip. Brief videos in a speech really intrigue me because it is something different to look at and listen to during a long and engaging speech. I agree that videos should not be extremely long because it takes up a lot of time, which can bore and distract audiences. Videos should be perhaps at least fifteen seconds long and get a simple point across. With the availability of Youtube, I can find almost any video. I will definitely embed the video within my Powerpoint presentation because it will make the flow of the speech smoother. I will definitely have to check ahead of time to see if embedding the video will work before the day of the speech. Hopefully I can find a short and decent video on the prevention of teenage pregnancy.

Videos can be fun to watch on a presentation. I think it can be pointless sometimes when the video is really short and it can be shown with a few pictures. Throughout the past I have seen other people who have added videos in your PowerPoint. They added in a video but when they were presenting it didn’t work. Sometimes they just add a link to the slides and when they click on it, it doesn’t connect. Then they waste a few minutes trying to figure out what’s wrong and just left it out. Embedding a video on your slides sound good I’m sure you’ll test it out before the presentation, just make sure there’s internet to load it.
ReplyDeleteHello Piper! I think it a good idea for you to incorporate a video clip in your last speech because I believe those are interesting as you mentioned, and they help the audience to stay focused and not bored. I am sure you will be able to find several video clips on the internet on the topic of pregnancy prevention so you should have no problem with that. I agree that you should embed the video into your powerpoint presentation because it will make your speech flow smoother as you do not have to spend time looking online for the video which can be distracting to an audience. I think you perfectly understand the purpose of video streaming in presentations based on chapter 11's explanation and I am sure you will do well if you stick to the what you previously stated. (15-second video clip, embed into powerpoint, etc.)
ReplyDeleteHello Piper,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a good idea of wanting to incorporate a video clip into your next speech. It is something different, and I dont think that anyone is our class has used a video clip yet. It will keep the audience engaged, as long as it is not too long, and don't forget to keep talking while the clip is going. I would like to use a video but I dont think that it is needed for the topic of any of my speeches. I think a video clip will go really well with the topic of your speech on teen pregnancy. It will definitely bring emotion and be a good visual during your speech. Good luck finding the right video. =)
Hey there!!
ReplyDeleteWell I also think that is a very good idea with putting a video
in one's presentation,as long as it works! I remember for the first speech, my speech was on pinatas and I had added like a 10 second video clip of this little girl singing the pinata song. I added it so that the audience would get a feel on what the song sounded like, in case some people had never heard it. Unfortunately the video did not play,so that was a bummer. I didn't waste my time trying to fix it while I was doing the speech though, I just sort of went along. Next time though, I should make sure that it works beforehand. And you are right, one should not add a video clip that is super long.
I agree that the video clips can be very helpful and interesting in a speech. For my last speech I wanted to include a clip but my speech was long enough as it was. I think the clip that you choose should have a purpose and add to the objective of what you want to get across to the audience and it should not be for too long. And that is such a great idea to use websites like youtube.com. If I were you I would first make sure that the person or group that made the video is a valid source because people these days could make up stuff and the information is not accurate but if it fits you speech and then for it! I am really looking forward to your speech. Good luck!!
