Chapter 9 or 13 Concept
Because I did not use a Power Point presentation for my last speech, I am excited to use Power Point for my informative speech along with other visuals such as pictures. I thought about using a picture for my attention getter because audiences are usually attracted to “show” rather than “tell”. I believe adding commentary to the pictures will also capture the audience’s attention because they need guidance as to what the picture represents. I will make sure that the picture for the attention getter is flawless because first impressions are everything. In fact, all the pictures should be flawless to show my audience that I retrieved the pictures from a reliable source.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with you that pictures are really important to any presentation. I believe that by having pictures it can keep the audience occupied while you tell them all the boring information that alone might not interest them. I know when I am listening to someone I like something to look at while they are talking and by having a variety of pictures it just gives the audience something new to look at each so you wouldn’t be bored just looking at the same picture. But you have to make sure that you don’t have too many pictures because for our first speech I had too many slides, that I couldn’t explain each one because I was running out of time. So be careful when making your power point presentation for this next speech, just make sure you practice with your slides.
I am very excited to bring in media to my next speech as well. Like you I did not use a PowerPoint presentation in my last speech. You bring up great points about how the audiences would be more attracted to the media and having a speaker “show” rather than just “tell.” I think by using a Power Point presentation in our next speeches to come we will be more confident with what we have to say. Power Point presentations also have the tendency to tell the audience that you prepared for the speech. By using pictures and other media in our next speech we can more greatly entertain the audience by giving them something to listen to as well as see.
ReplyDeleteHello Piper! I'm glad you decided to use powerpoint for the coming speech. My suggestion would be to practice quite a bit with your visual aid prior to the presentation. As you probably noticed during our last round of speeches, some people tend to focus on the visual aid when they are speaking rather than making eye contact with the audience. Are you planning on using a shocking visual aid? Also, are you planning on combining the 'show' and the 'tell'?
